What are hot spots?

What are hot spots? Pyotraumatic Dermatitis or Acute Moist Dermatitis. Hot spots are a common skin disorder in dogs. Hot spots can appear suddenly and become large red, irritated lesions in a short time. Hot spots can be found anywhere on a dog’s body, but the most common sites are head, legs, and hips. These painful, smelly sores may be very obvious or may be hidden beneath matted fur.

What causes a hot spot?

Hot spots are usually caused by self-trauma when a dog scratches an itchy spot so repeatedly it becomes an open wound. Fido may scratch for various reasons regardless of the cause it is bothersome for fido and fido’s family. When a dog licks the sore spot, he irritates superficial nerve endings in the skin which stimulates more itching followed by more licking, biting, and scratching. This lick itch cycle is the basis for the self-trauma that causes hot spots.

  • I have 4 dogs ages ranging from 17 to 7 years old, all are on a flea regiment, but they are losing hair, scratching like crazy, skin reddish rash, I have bought several products for immune, skin, and also shampoos, nothing helping, tired of sweeping up dog hair daily, it’s just crazy. My 17 year old is a Lethal White, deaf, and she chews her feet to form scours, will this product work? Tired of man made chemicals going on or in my dogs. Iam all natural as possible. Sample of this to see if it will make a difference or they will like. I need something that is going to work!
